Thesis (nicole): Muslims, Jews, and Christians had many interactions with each other during the centuries whether it was in battle or in world epidemics. Each disagreed with each others way of worship which caused many problems through the ages.
Thesis(Chris): Islam, Judaism, and Christianity interacted in the development of the world with the crusades and the trading between cultures. Even though they fought they needed each others support to survive.
The three major religions, from 600 CE to 1450 CE, were Muslim, Judaism, and Christianity. All these religions believed in the same God but had different ways of worship. These differences caused much conflict between the three religions.
Merchants and traders were the first individuals to convert to a religion, and it was because of the merchants that religions were able to spread to many different locations and to many civilizations. They would share their religion with those they came into contact with while on the trade routes and it would quickly spread to other peoples homeland causing mass convertion to the certain religion.
Judiasm is the belief of one God. It started 6,000 years ago in the Middle East and is the oldest of the three religions. It spread through the family lines over time. There are three types of Judiasm which are Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform. They follow the laws of God that was put forth by the Torah and it includes the Ten Commandments and hundreds of other key laws. They believed that the purpose of their lives was to do God's work and there was no promise of an afterlife and that their life on Earth was their only life.
Christianity is the belief of one god, also, and in Jesus Messiah. Christianity also started in the Middle East about 2,000 years ago as a sect of Judiasm. It spread through the Mediterranean world through missionaries and Roman army trade. When Constantine switched to Christianity other people converted to Christianity. This is when Christianity first started becoming popular as a faith.
Islam has one main God, Allah, but many deities. It started 1,400 years ago in the Middle East, and it spread through the Mediterranean and Arab world through missionaries, traders, and conquest. Islam started when the profit Muhammad was visited by Gabriel. Gabriel told him the Q'ran and he then passed this down on to paper. This was in 610 AD and he began preaching and converting people to his faith.
One of the major interactions was the Black Death. This spread throughout Europe affecting all the faiths. In Europe, Christians believe it was the Jews fault and so they started burning and pursicuting Jews to stop the disease. Their answer to how you aquire and cure this disease was based on religious thoughts, and that those with the disease have it because of their sins.
Another was the Crusades on the city of Jerusalem. Pope Urban ll told Christians to take back the holy land and if they died in the process, they would go to heaven. They took back the city from the Muslims but many more would break out and Islam would end up keeping control of the city.
The Umayyad Dynasty came into power in 661 and they temporarily made peace in Arab society. They conquered a vast area and they let conquered people keep their faith as long as they paid a tax called a Jizya. With this tax, they hoped that they convert these conquered people to their religion.
